Abstract: Varicocele is a fairly common condition in male individuals. Although a minor disease, it may cause infertility and testicular pain. Consequently, it has high health and social impact. Here we review the current status of interventional radiology of male varicocele. We describe the radiological anatomy of gonadal veins and the clinical aspects of male varicocele, particularly the physical examination, which includes a new clinical and ultrasound Doppler maneuver. The surgical and radiological treatment options are also described with the focus on retrograde and antegrade sclerotherapy, together with our long experience with these procedures. Last, we compare the outcomes, recurrence and persistence rates, complications, procedure time and cost-effectiveness of each method. It clearly emerges from this analysis that there is a need for randomized multicentre trials designed to compare the various surgical and percutaneous techniques, all of which are aimed at occlusion of the anterior pampiniform plexus. Abstract: Phlegmasia caerulea dolens (PCD) is a potentially disastrous complication of inferior vena cava filter insertion, and its optimum management has not been clearly established. We present a case report of a patient with pulmonary embolism and acute adrenal haemorrhage who developed PCD secondary to massive iliocaval thrombosis after insertion of a Cook Celect removable filter. Local intravenous catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT), followed by systemic anticoagulation, achieved limb salvage and virtual resolution of symptoms at 3 months without complications. CDT can be a successful primary treatment of filter-associated PCD and can be safe in selected patients with acute nontraumatic haemorrhage. Systemic anticoagulation may subsequently restore complete venous patency and may therefore be a useful approach to postthrombolysis management of residual iliocaval thrombus when filter removal is indicated. Purpose: Retrieval of optional caval filters may be impaired by filter tilting, migration, fracture, or embedding in the IVC wall. The goal of this experimental study was to evaluate a new optional filter, convertible by unlocking and removing the filter head. Objectives: To investigate the technical success rate of Prostar XL for closure of large (≥20F) femoral vascular access sites in thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) procedures.
Background—The selection of patients with renal artery stenosis (RAS) likely to improve glomerular filtration rate (GFR) after percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty is difficult. We examined basal hemodynamic and inflammatory factors linked to improved stenotic kidney (STK) function after percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty in swine RAS. The purpose of this study was to report on the 5-year survival of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients treated with DC Bead loaded with doxorubicin (DEB-DOX) in a scheduled scheme in up to three treatments and thereafter on demand. Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of yttrium-90 (90Y) radioembolization through the inferior phrenic arteries (IPAs). Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology Volume 23, Issue 10 , Pages 1294-1301, October 2012. Copyright © SIR, 2012
Purpose: Treatment of patients who have metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) by using a combination of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) and systemic chemotherapy has resulted in promising clinical outcomes. Additionally, image-guided HAIC is reported to be less invasive and distribute drugs more accurately than surgical HAIC. The purpose of this study was to assess the combination of image-guided delivery of fluorouracil through HAIC and systemic irinotecan in a multicenter phase I/II study. Purpose: Percutaneous cementoplasty has proved very effective for the palliation of pain from bone metastases. However, several studies argue that it should be contraindicated for metastases that are located in the proximal femur because of inadequate bone consolidation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors for fracture despite performing cementoplasty for metastases of the proximal femur. Purpose: Recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is very common even after curative resection or ablation. This retrospective study compared the radiologic features of recurrent HCC seen by computed tomography (CT) to evaluate our empirical protocol of CT surveillance using 4-month intervals. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and feasibility of same-day discharge of patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after doxorubicin drug-eluting bead (DEB) transarterial chemoembolization and to elucidate the factors predisposing to overnight admission.
