AMERICAN JOURNAL OF ROENTGENOLOGY. Comparison of Triple-Drug Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization (TACE) With Single-Drug TACE Using Doxorubicin-Eluting Beads: Long-Term Survival in 313 Patients

Antoinette S. Gomes, Phillip A. Monteleone, James W. Sayre, Richard S. Finn, Saeed Sadeghi, Myron J. Tong, Carolyn D. Britten and Ronald W. Busuttil

OBJECTIVE. We compared survival outcomes in 313 patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with two different transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) regimens: triple-drug TACE or single-drug TACE using drug-eluting beads.

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY & HEPATOLOGY. Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt placement before abdominal intervention in cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension: lessons from a pilot study

Fares, Nadim; Robic, Marie-Angèle; Péron, Jean-Marie; Muscari, Fabrice; Otal, Philippe; Suc, Bertrand; Vinel, Jean-Pierre; Bureau, Christophe

Background: Abdominal interventions are usually contraindicated in patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension because of increased morbidity and mortality. Decreasing portal pressure with transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) may improve patient outcomes. We report our experience with patients treated by neoadjuvant TIPS to identify those who would most benefit from this two-step procedure.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Double Balloon-Assisted Coil Embolization (BACE) Combined with Proximal and Distal Balloon Inflation for Short Abdominal Arterial Segments: Comparison with Single BACE

Mitsunari Maruyama, Takeshi Yoshizako, Tomonori Nakamura, Megumi Nakamura, Rika Yoshida, Shinji Ando, Hajime Kitagaki

Purpose: To evaluate the differences of technique between coil embolization for short abdominal arterial segments with only proximal balloon inflation and combined proximal and distal balloon inflation, as well as the volume embolization ratio (VER) and the ratio of the first coil diameter to the target vessel diameter (first coil diameter ratio).

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. A Comparative Study of Ablation Boundary Sharpness After Percutaneous Radiofrequency, Cryo-, Microwave, and Irreversible Electroporation Ablation in Normal Swine Liver and Kidneys

Francois H. Cornelis, Jeremy C. Durack, Simon Y. Kimm, Thomas Wimmer, Jonathan A. Coleman, Stephen B. Solomon, Govindarajan Srimathveeravalli

Purpose: To compare ablation boundary sharpness after percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA), cryoablation (CA), microwave ablation (MWA) and irreversible electroporation (IRE) ablation in normal swine liver and kidney.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Pediatric Percutaneous Osteoid Osteoma Ablation: Cone-Beam CT with Fluoroscopic Overlay Versus Conventional CT Guidance

Brandon C. Perry, Eric J. Monroe, Tyler McKay, Kalpana M. Kanal, Giridhar Shivaram

Purpose: To compare technical success, clinical success, complications, radiation dose, and total room utilization time for osteoid osteoma thermal (radiofrequency or microwave) ablation using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) with two-axis fluoroscopic navigational overlay versus conventional computed tomography (CT) guidance.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Comparison Between CT and MR Images as More Favorable Reference Data Sets for Fusion Imaging-Guided Radiofrequency Ablation or Biopsy of Hepatic Lesions: A Prospective Study with Focus on Patient’s Respiration

Dong Ik Cha, Min Woo Lee, Tae Wook Kang, Young-Taek Oh, Ja-Yeon Jeong, Jung-Woo Chang, Jiwon Ryu, Kyong Joon Lee, Jaeil Kim, Won-Chul Bang, Dong Kuk Shin, Sung Jin Choi, Dalkwon Koh, Kyunga Kim

Purpose: To identify the more accurate reference data sets for fusion imaging-guided radiofrequency ablation or biopsy of hepatic lesions between computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) images.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma Treated with Initial Transarterial Chemoembolization

Jan B. Hinrichs, Davut B. Hasdemir, Maximilian Nordlohne, Nora Schweitzer, Frank Wacker, Arndt Vogel, Martha M. Kirstein, Steffen Marquardt, Thomas Rodt

Purpose: To investigate the impact of the first transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and identify predictors for low HRQoL following TACE.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Single-Incision Versus Conventional Technique for Tunneled Central Line Placement in Children

Daniel Ashton, Darshan Variyam, J. Alberto Hernandez, Sheena Pimpalwar, Shireen Hayatghaibi, Kamlesh Kukreja

Purpose: A single-incision technique for tunneled central venous access has been described. This study evaluates whether single-incision technique in children is comparable to the conventional method, with regard to procedure time, fluoroscopy time, and complication rate.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Endovascular Creation of an Arteriovenous Fistula (endoAVF) for Hemodialysis Access: First Results

Christoph Georg Radosa, Julia Caroline Radosa, Norbert Weiss, Christine Schmidt, Sebastian Werth, Thomas Hofmockel, Verena Plodeck, Christian Gatzweiler, Michael Laniado, Ralf-Thorsten Hoffmann

Introduction: Surgical creation of a radiocephalic fistula is the gold standard of vascular access for hemodialysis. Recently, an endovascular approach for upper arm fistula creation (endoAVF) has been developed, which may be an alternative to open surgery. We describe a case series of eight cases showing feasibility, early complications and outcome of this novel treatment option.

CARDIOVASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Endovascular Management of Native Postcoarctation Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms

Ziheng Wu, Xiangtao Zheng, Xin Fang, Yangyan He, Donglin Li, Chengfei Zheng, Hongkun Zhang

Purpose: Postcoarctation thoracic aortic aneurysm formation is one of the most serious complications for coarctation of aorta. Open surgery to repair these aneurysms is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Endovascular therapy is an attractive alternative to open surgery. We have studied the efficacy and safety of endovascular therapy for postcoarctation thoracic aortic aneurysms, and will share our findings and experience through this document.
