JOURNAL OF VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Thermal Energy during Irreversible Electroporation and the Influence of Different Ablation Parameters

Willemien van den Bos, MD, Hester J. Scheffer, MD, Jantien A. Vogel, MD, Peter G.K. Wagstaff, MD, PhD, Daniel M. de Bruin, PhD, Marcus C. de Jong, MD, Martin J.C. van Gemert, PhD, Jean J.M.C.H. de la Rosette, PhD, Martijn R. Meijerink, PhD, John H. Klaessens, MSc, Rudolf M. Verdaasdonk, PhD

Purpose: Irreversible electroporation (IRE) uses high-voltage electric fields to achieve cell death. Although the mechanism of IRE is mainly designated as nonthermal, development of secondary Joule heating is inevitable. The study purpose was to gain understanding of temperature development and distribution during IRE.

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY & HEPATOLOGY. Efficacy and safety of anticoagulation in more advanced portal vein thrombosis in patients with liver cirrhosis

Chen, Hui; Liu, Lei; Qi, Xingshun; He, Chuangye; Wu, Feifei; Fan, Daiming; Han, Guohong

Background and aim: Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a frequent event in patients with cirrhosis. The effects of anticoagulation on these patients were still unclear, especially for more advanced PVT. The aim of this study was to retrospectively assess the resolution of PVT and liver disease progression in a large cohort of cirrhotic patients with PVT with or without anticoagulation therapy.

JOURNAL OF HEPATOLOGY. Prognostic impact of surgery and radiofrequency ablation on single nodular HCC ⩽5 cm: Cohort study based on serum HCC markers

Masaki Ueno, Shinya Hayami, Yoshinobu Shigekawa, Manabu Kawai, Seiko Hirono, Ken-ichi Okada, Hideyuki Tamai, Naoki Shingaki, Yoshiyuki Mori, Masao Ichinose, Hiroki Yamaue

Background & Aims: Serological markers of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) indicate its invasiveness. We aimed to investigate whether the prognostic impact of surgical resection (SR) and radiofrequency thermal ablation (RFA) on patients with single nodular HCC ⩽5 cm were different regarding positive conditions of the following three HCC markers: alpha-fetoprotein (AFP); lens culinaris agglutinin-reactive fraction of AFP; and des-γ-carboxy prothrombin.

JOURNAL OF VASCULAR AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY. Endovascular Aneurysm Repair Treatment of Aortoiliac Aneurysms: Can Iliac Branched Devices Prevent Gluteal Claudication?

Mikkel Taudorf, MD, PhD, John Grønvall, MD, Torben V. Schroeder, MD, DMsc, Lars Lönn, MD, PhD

Purpose: To compare the risk of gluteal claudication after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) of aortoiliac aneurysms by interventional exclusion of the internal iliac artery (IIA) with plugs or coils versus a branch iliac device to maintain pelvic blood supply and to identify risk factors for postoperative gluteal claudication.
