STROKE. Antithrombotic Therapy and Bleeding Risk in a Prospective Cohort Study of Patients With Cerebral Cavernous Malformations

Hans-Martin Schneble, MD; Aicha Soumare, PhD; Dominique Hervé, MD, PhD; Damien Bresson, MD; Jean-Pierre Guichard, MD; Florence Riant, MD, PhD; Elisabeth Tournier-Lasserve, MD, PhD; Christophe Tzourio, MD, PhD; Hugues Chabriat, MD, PhD; Christian Stapf, MD

Background and Purpose—Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) are one of the most frequently diagnosed vascular malformations of the brain and constitute a potential source of intracranial hemorrhage. In CCM patients suffering ischemic stroke or heart disease, the use of anticoagulants or antiplatelet therapy is generally avoided by fear of hemorrhagic complications, but no systematic studies exist to support this hypothesis. 2012; 43: 3196-3199 Published online before print November 13, 2012, doi: 10.1161/STROKEAHA.112.668533. STROKE. Risk Prediction for Adverse Events After Carotid Artery Stenting in Higher Surgical Risk Patients

Neil J. Wimmer, MD; Robert W. Yeh, MD, MSc; Donald E. Cutlip, MD; Laura Mauri, MD, MSc

Background and Purpose—The goal of carotid artery stenting is to decrease the risk of stroke or other adverse events from carotid artery disease. Choosing a treatment strategy requires patient-specific information regarding periprocedural risk of adverse neurologic events. The aim of this study was to predict individual patient risk after carotid artery stenting in patients at higher risk for carotid endarterectomy. STROKE. Final Infarct Volume Is a Stronger Predictor of Outcome Than Recanalization in Patients With Proximal Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion Treated With Endovascular Therapy

Syed F. Zaidi, MD, Amin Aghaebrahim, MD, Xabier Urra, MD, Mouhammad A. Jumaa, MD, Brian Jankowitz, MD, Maxim Hammer, MD, Raul Nogueira, MD, Michael Horowitz, MD, Vivek Reddy, MD and Tudor G. Jovin, MD

Background and Purpose—The rationale for recanalization therapy in acute ischemic stroke is to preserve brain through penumbral salvage and thus improve clinical outcomes. We sought to determine the relationship between recanalization, clinical outcomes, and final infarct volumes in acute ischemic stroke patients presenting with middle cerebral artery occlusion who underwent endovascular therapy and post-procedure magnetic resonance imaging. AJNR. Analysis of Intra-Aneurysmal Flow for Cerebral Aneurysms with Cerebral Angiography

L.-D. Jou and M.E. Mawad

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Hemodynamics is an important factor in the development and rupture of cerebral aneurysms. Current techniques for measuring blood flow in cerebral aneurysms suffer from various limitations and have not been able to address our clinical needs. A new technique has been developed for effective evaluation of intra-aneurysmal flow based on high-frame-rate cerebral angiography, especially for flow-diverters.
